A Look into the Genius of Rick Owens, the Lord of Darkness
Written by Vyoma Trivedi
If you don't know who Rick Owens is, it's about time you do. Owens, born and brought up in sunny California, is an artistic genius who within a few years of success was crowned as The Lord of Darkness or The Prince of Dark Design. I was around 15 years old when I was introduced to Owens through Kanye West. Little did I know, that I had only seen the light side of Owens' brilliance and was yet to fully dive deep into the black and white mind of Rick Owens.
Owens is a true avant-garde artist that has moulded the art and fashion industry with his own hands. Owens now works out of Paris along with equally creative and successful wife Michelle Lamy. Owens has been in the fashion and art industry for over 20 years.
Owens' genius can be credited to his lack of fear. His work can be described as timeless pieces of brave and courageous work. He does not hold back from bringing in the weird, the different, the obnoxious and the terrifying to his runways. He has influenced several designers with his gender-fluid and sportswear hybrid designs. One can say without any doubt that his favourite colour is black.
We can even dive deeper into his mind and artistic aesthetic when we take a closer look at his museum exhibit known as "Subhuman Inhuman Superhuman". This exhibit is an in-depth work of Owens' 20-year long career establishing him as the king of Goth Fashion. With dark cloudy skies hanging by the ceiling and the most exquisite pieces of clothing, Owens remarked himself as the greatest of all time.
